COVID-19 demonstrated the need to have a hands-on, number savvy and commercially orientated senior finance lead in organisations, to ensure the appropriately designated teams, systems and processes are in place to ensure the business has strong foundations in place. Many businesses suffered cashflow problems in the early lockdown phases of the pandemic.

Since the turn of 2021, there has been an increased appetite from Investors and organisations for exponential growth, with increased interest in M&A and Commercial leaders who can execute growth, and buy-and-build strategies – at pace, and accurately. There has been an increased demand for exceptional candidates who have demonstrable experience of running an M&A process from end-to-end, including origination.

A demand for better data and insight from their finance leads and an increased focus on commercial business partnering, has seen a shift away from the legacy focus on “in sector expertise” as being the key factor in selection. Having an extensive network in finance across the wider commercial sectors has enabled us to fast-track hires from out of sector whose expertise in these specifics is frequently more advanced.
